Styling Your Powder Room Around Green Zellige Tile

Tile has a huge impact on the functionality and beauty of your space—it’s one area that we specifically (even more than usual) focus on in your design. We look for high-quality materials that will last forever and, of course, look gorgeous. One of our favorite tiles used is Zellige—in this case, green Zellige tile.

What is Zellige Tile?

Zellige (pronounced zell-idge) tile is a type of tile that originated in Morocco. The tiles were handcrafted from a special blend of local clay, then glazed and filed, resulting in a surface with unique irregularities.

The beauty of Zellige comes from the fact that there are no two same tiles; all tiles are hand-molded, hand-cut, and hand-glazed, and there are no exact replicas.

3 Ways to Style Your Powder Room Around Green Zellige Tile

The key to adding Zellige to your powder room is embracing the challenge—Zellige tile comes in colorful shades and blends an older, antique style with a contemporary take. Today’s example is one of my favorites: green Zellige.

Adding green to your powder room is key when you want it to feel clean, refreshing, and serene. Depending on the shade, green is also associated with nature (which is why it’s such a relaxing color).

When working with Zellige tile, it’s important to remember that it will be the attention-grabber, so you’ll need to consider your fixtures, hardware, and tile placement. There are three main guidelines to remember when styling your powder room around green Zellige tile:

#1. Make it a Focal Point

Green Zellige is gorgeous—but it can be tricky to add to your powder room. My recommendation is to use it as an accent wall or a backsplash for your sink. An accent wall is ideal for small spaces as it creates contrast, making the room feel larger.

#2. Choose Complementary Fixtures

Powder rooms are a great place to add gold to your home. Gold pairs well with green Zellige tile and stands out against the backsplash, but doesn’t distract from the beauty of your tile.

Gold isn’t the only color that pairs well with green Zellige. You can opt for bronze or even a silver fixture—just remember that the goal is to complement, not compete.

#3. Embrace it’s Texture and Uniqueness

Zellige, especially this green Zellige, has its own texture and color variations to embrace. Smooth lines and metals allow your tile to shine—literally and figuratively. Alternatively, you can pair your green tile with other colors of Zellige for a more dynamic atmosphere; just be cautious of how you plan your design, and you may end up making your small space even smaller.

Adding Zellige Tile to Your Home

Zellige tile is perfect for more than your powder rooms—it’s a gorgeous tile for all your spaces, like your bathroom, kitchen, and mudrooms. With its unique style and texture and variety of colors and shades, it can be the final touch that makes your room feel like YOU.

If you’re interested in adding Zellige tiles to your home (green or any other color; I love them all), book your free consultation, and let’s design a room that works—and feels good—for you.
